The Veterinary Educational Team (V. E. T.) was established in 1996 to
promote the study, education and welfare of Arctic breeds of canine athletes.
The primary goal of the organization is to educate school age children
throughout the Southeast on the sport of sled dog racing, including the
humanitarian treatment of the animals used in arctic life, and the history
and culture of Native Alaskans through a variety of community programs
and services. Its parallel purpose is to share knowledge of canine sports
medicine with veterinarians, mushers, researchers and sports enthusiasts.
The V. E. T. is a tax-exempt organization governed by an advisory board.
The board promotes participation in the International Iditarod Trail Sled
Dog Race and oversees the educational visits to schools.
